About the Session

Legal research is evolving—and agentic AI is at the frontier. By pairing LLM-based agents with legal search tools and structured data, we get systems that are both reasoning engines and research assistants. These agents plan, retrieve, read, and synthesise in response to complex queries—like tracing procedural steps across jurisdictions, surfacing significant cases within time windows, or comparing how courts interpret a clause over time. This talk gives a peek under the hood: what makes deep research work, where it struggles, and what it’s already delivering for legal tech teams and practitioners alike.

Dr. Kuan Hsieh, Senior Research Scientist, Dr. Kuan Hsieh is a Senior Research Scientist at vLex, where he develops advanced LLM capabilities for Vincent, the company’s AI assistant powered by the world's largest legal database. Before joining vLex, Kuan developed AI solutions for contract review at Luminance and earned his PhD degree in information theory from the University of Cambridge. Kuan is passionate about developing AI with enhanced legal reasoning capabilities that remain firmly grounded in authoritative legal data.

Jake also conducts AI research at the University of Oxford, focusing on leveraging AI for climate accountability and litigation.
